Our Story

Pihanga Health is a not-for-profit rural primary healthcare organisation serving Tūrangi and the Southern Lakes communities.

Serving our community since 2007

Pihanga Health has provided primary healthcare to Tūrangi and the Southern Lakes communities since 2007. Over that time, the practice has continued to develop its services in response to the changing health needs of local people and whānau.

As a rural health service, we understand the importance of being able to access quality healthcare close to home. Our team works together to provide everyday medical care, preventative health services and ongoing support for people living with long-term conditions.

Our purpose

Our purpose is to provide accessible, respectful and high-quality healthcare in a friendly and safe environment.

We aim to place patients and whānau at the centre of care, helping people understand their health, make informed decisions and receive the support they need. We are committed to providing care that is coordinated, practical and responsive to the needs of our community.

Our connection with Pihanga

Pihanga Maunga is a prominent and culturally significant tohu whenua within the Tūrangi and Southern Lakes area, with particular importance to Ngāti Tūwharetoa and Ngāti Tūrangitukua.

Pihanga Health is honoured to carry its name. It reflects our connection with the local whenua, the communities we serve and the distinctive identity of this area.

The Pihanga Health logo also reflects themes of care, connection and wellbeing. Its interlinked forms represent the importance of relationships—between patients, whānau, healthcare providers and the wider community.

A community-focused health service

Our multidisciplinary team works to provide care that is:

  • Accessible

  • Respectful

  • Safe

  • Patient and whānau centred

  • Culturally responsive

  • Preventative as well as reactive

  • Coordinated across different clinicians and services

We value strong relationships with patients, whānau, iwi, local organisations and other healthcare providers. These connections help us better understand local needs and develop services that are practical, culturally respectful and relevant to the community.

Our goal is to help create a healthier community by making quality healthcare as accessible, coordinated and affordable as possible.
